WAN-Hive Ghana, in partnership with the German Sparkassenstiftung Foundation (DSIK), has officially launched the Cashew Addition and Livelihood Empowerment Project (CALEP), an initiative designed to empower cashew farmers, particularly young women, to transition into sustainable, income-generating enterprises through value addition in Suma and its neighbouring communities.
The official launch brought together traditional authorities, local authorities, implementing partners, and beneficiaries to mark the beginning of this important intervention. The event was graced by the Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Mr Eric Adjei, Esq., who commended WAN-Hive Ghana and DSIK for championing a project that aligns with Ghana’s national agenda for innovation-driven rural development. In his remarks, he underscored the vital role of value addition in building resilient local economies and applauded the project’s focus on empowering women. He encouraged participants to leverage the training as a pathway to long-term self-reliance and to take full advantage of the entrepreneurship opportunities available through NEIP, pledging the institution’s support for the initiative.
Ms Janat Issifu, CEO of WAN-Hive Ghana, reiterated the organisation’s commitment to empowering rural communities through practical vocational training, digital literacy, and enterprise development. She noted that with CALEP being implemented for over four months, it aims not only to reduce post-harvest losses but also to introduce innovative cashew-based products that can compete in both local and export markets. She further emphasised WAN-Hive Ghana’s vision of establishing sustainable structures that promote financial independence and strengthen community resilience
Beneficiaries expressed strong enthusiasm for the project, indicating that they look forward to deepening their knowledge and exploring innovative methods for adding value to cashew products, methods that can be developed into viable enterprises and long-term, sustainable livelihoods The Cashew Addition and Livelihood Empowerment Project stands as a testament to the power of collaborative development, unlocking rural potential, creating sustainable livelihoods, and driving inclusive economic growth for underserved communities
