WAN-Hive Ghana, in partnership with the Telecel Foundation, organized a two-day capacity-building programme for women in agribusiness across the Bono Region, highlighting the critical role of technology and financial management, for women in the agricultural value chain. Over 240 young women from Wenchi, Berekum, Dormaa, Sunyani, and its neighboring communities convened to participate, creating an inclusive learning environment that promotes collaboration.
The training commenced with an opening session featuring remarks from Ms. Janat Issifu, CEO of WAN-Hive Ghana, who reaffirmed the organization’s longstanding commitment to creating and expanding opportunities for women in the agribusiness sector. Ms. Rita Agyeiwaa Rockson, Head of Sustainability and External Communications at the Telecel Foundation, addressed participants, stating the urgency of bridging the digital divide for women in agriculture and reiterated the Foundation’s dedication to initiatives that deliver sustainable, and long-term impact.
The digital literacy session commenced with an interactive introduction that enabled them to appreciate the extent to which technology is already embedded in their daily routines. Using relatable examples such as waking up to the sound of an alarm and the everyday use of mobile devices, the facilitator effectively contextualized the relevance of technology The session also focused on the use of digital communication and social media applications, such as WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok, etc, to strengthen coordination and marketing across agricultural value chains.
They then explored the use of mobile-based record-keeping to ensure productivity and enhance operational efficiency, as well as strategies for increasing online market visibility and product branding. The financial literacy segment complemented the digital training by reinforcing participants’ economic decision-making capacity. She emphasized on the importance of disciplined saving, investment, and the need to engage with credible financial institutions to ensure long-term financial security and growth. Ms. Victoria Aidoo, Digital Transformation Specialist, and Mrs. Elom Amedume, Business Key Account Manager at the Telecel Foundation delivered these sessions respectfully.
To mark the end of the two-day training, participants received souvenirs including a Telecel SIM card with internet bundle to enhance their digital presence as they expressed great joy and appreciation for the opportunity to gain valuable insights. Sharing their experience, some women mentioned that the training has motivated them to be more intentional in using various social media platforms to build and expand their customer base.
